Welcome to Holy Spirit Church

Holy Spirit Parish
is a small Roman Catholic Parish in south-central Kentucky. We were founded in 1953 and our church was erected in 1968. We have 76 registered families, with a wide variety of ages and ethnic backgrounds. The majority of our parishioners are transplants from other areas, who have settled here for jobs, to be near family and/or friends or to retire near gorgeous Lake Cumberland. In the summer we welcome many visitors who come to Lake Cumberland. One of the gifts of our parish is our hospitality. We try to make everyone feel welcome and a part of our Eucharistic celebrations.

Dan's Parents, Baby Dior Marie, Melissa, Joyce Willis, Colin Wolford (Tammy Zavalija's brother), Rita Ohlmann (Carolyn Williams' sister-in-law) and Kelley M. LOUISVILLE ARCHDIOCESAN HISTORY BOOKS: are at the main church entrance. They are $25. We have 5 extra books if anyone else would like to purchase one.

BICENTENNIAL MOMENT:  Charles Nerinckx, a 40 year-old Belgian priest, arrived at the St. Stephen's headquarters of Kentucky Catholicism on July 2, 1805. He served 20 years in Kentucky, built nearly 10 churches in ten years, and helped found the first religious community of the West, the Sisters of Loretto.

Serving God's People Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.

CHURCH TEACHING ON CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP: The Catholic community is large and diverse. We are Republican, Democrats, and Independents. We are members of every race, come from every ethnic background, and live in urban, rural, and suburban communities. We are CEOs and migrant farm workers, senators and persons on public assistance, business owners and union members. But we are all called to a common commitment to protect human life and stand with those who are poor and vulnerable. We cannot be indifferent to or cynical about the obligations of citizenship.

REFLECTION:

This solemnity celebrates two great apostles: Peter, apostle to the Jews; and Paul, apostle to the Gentiles. It also celebrates the faithfulness of disciples (see second reading). It celebrates the establishment of the church (see gospel). Most of all, this solemnity celebrates the victory of Christ that is shared with his faithful disciples- "the crown of righteousness awaits me" (second reading).

Connecting the Gospel

to our culture: We are naturally attracted to some figures who become larger than life because of their exceptional gifts, for example, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Bono, Oprah, Mother Teresa. The liturgical calendar directs this natural attraction to these two great apostles Peter and Paul so that we might draw inspiration from their faith and courage from their faithfulness.

  •  What I admire and respect most about Saints Peter and Paul are . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  • Over the years my answers to Jesus' question "What do you say that I am?" have been . . . .
  • Christ is building up his church through me when. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
